Diversity characterizes the southeast portion of Washington. Rolling hills and undulating wheat fields, deep canyons and rugged wilderness, rich, volcanic soil and crisp, snowy mountains: this is Southeast Washington. The Tri-cities of Kennewick, Pasco and Richland host horse racing at Sun Downs, hydroplane races at the Tri-cities Water Follies and professional baseball and hockey teams. The city of Richland also hosts the annual Tumbleweed Music Festival, an event that features two days of free acoustic music concerts performed by over 100 artists on four outdoor stages. When seeking downhill skiing adventure, the Bluewood Ski Resort near Walla Walla features a number of chairlifts and receives over 300 in (762 cm) of snowfall each year. Clarkston provides access to Hell's Canyon, which at 7,900 feet is North America's deepest canyon and a protected recreation area. Southeast Washington is also home to the city of Pullman, most known for housing the main campus of Washington State University.
